The First Minister has been challenged to find the money to pay for a new college building for Elmwood in Cupar. Local MSP Willie Rennie says the Government's regionalisation programme has resulted in the neglect of the college, a loss of students and a critically ageing building.
Willie Rennie said:
"Before she campaigns in support of her independence supporting candidate for the general election the First Minister should guarantee that she will repair the damage that her government's college regionalisation programme has inflicted on Elmwood.
"When Elmwood College was split between Fife College and SRUC serious problems emerged. Students and staff were moved out of Cupar and the college became a shadow of what it had been.
"I led a debate in Parliament and set out a plan for recovery. Part of the solution is to invest in a new building that would be a joint home for Fife College and SRUC with more students, staff and courses.
"The clock is ticking so the First Minister should commit to funding a new building and a wider recovery plan to restore further education learning in the Cupar area."
