Responding to comments made by the First Minister today on Good Morning Scotland, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie MSP said:
"By playing a never ending game of will she, won't she on another independence referendum Nicola Sturgeon is in danger of inflicting considerable and damaging economic uncertainty on Scotland.
"In the summer she declared that another independence referendum was highly likely following the Brexit vote but now she is sounding the retreat. I am sure it won't be long before she declares the referendum is back on again.
"People are fed up with the SNP droning on about independence and want them to get on with the day job. You would think that with all the problems with a slipping educational performance, a shortage of GPs and struggling mental health services that the SNP would get on with finding solutions. But the SNP are obsessed with independence so those issues will never be their top priority.
"The damage to our economy from this uncertainty could be considerable.
"Nicola Sturgeon should now rule out another independence referendum to end this damaging uncertainty."
