Responding to the news that the UK Government may halve its funding for the Tay Cities Deal, North East Fife MSP Willie Rennie said:
“This is a devastating revelation. Both of Scotland’s governments have a responsibility to ensure the investment that was promised to the Tay region is delivered and brings tangible benefits to local people.
“The settlement could bring considerable opportunities to the area. It would be deplorable to pledge such transformative investment then whip it away.”
Cllr Peter Barrett, Leader of the Lib Dems on Perth and Kinross Council, said:
“I hope this is just the rumour mill going into overdrive. Halving the size of the Perth City deal would be a body blow to jobs and growth in Perth and Kinross.
“We have steadfastly and constructively engaged in the City Deal process and have developed strong business cases to support key projects. This uncertainty needs to end and we urgently need both the UK and Scottish Governments to back the Tay Cities Deal in full.”
