Rennie: Ageing population shows importance of migration

Commenting on the latest population figures, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie said:

“With population growth slowing and an ageing population, the continued supply of workers from across Europe is essential for our health service and our economy.
“It's sad to see that how Brexit has made the UK appear less welcoming.

"The public did not vote to damage the economy or our NHS. That's why the public must have the final say, so they can exit from Brexit if they decide to do so.”

On rising numbers of dementia patients he said:

“In an ageing population it is no surprise that the dementia rate is on the rise. Both of Scotland's governments need to redouble their efforts to improve the quality of life of those living with dementia and ensure that we have the social care workforce we need to give those living with dementia the best possible quality of life."
