Tory tax credit cuts will hurt Scottish families

Earlier this week, I voted against Tory plans for tax credit cuts that will see families across Scotland. Although a Liberal Democrat motion which would have scrapped these dangerous plans altogether did not pass, another motion calling for the government to think again and introduce new protections was successful.

A look ahead to conference

Tomorrow, Liberal Democrats from across Scotland will come together for our Autumn conference in Dunfermline.

Conference is always a good chance to catch up with old friends and make new ones. And with one third of those attending having joined the party since the general election, there will be plenty of new friends to be made!

Over the summer, I met hundreds of new party members as part of a policy roadshow that took me from the Borders to the Highlands. I was hugely impressed by the enthusiasm that our new members brought to the table.

Audit Scotland report is a damning indictment of the SNP's record on our NHS

Last week, the First Minister told us that she wants to be judged on her record. This week, Audit Scotland published a damning report on her government’s record on the NHS.

The SNP claim to have protected investment in our NHS. Audit Scotland say that funding has been cut in real terms by nearly 1% over the last 7 years. Two health boards have been forced to take out loans from the Scottish Government just to break even.

The SNP claim that things are getting better in our health service. Audit Scotland say that national performance against key targets and standards is getting worse.

Rennie congratulates Jean Davis on Lib Dem Highland by-election win

Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie MSP today congratulated new Highland Liberal Democrat councillor Jean Davis on her victory in the Aird and Loch Ness by-election in a gain from the SNP.

The by-election was for the seat vacated by SNP MP Drew Hendry. It is the first time the SNP have been beaten in a council by-election since the Independence Referendum.
