A&E Crisis: number of people waiting more than four hours second worst ever

Responding to figures from Public Health Scotland showing an increase in A&E waiting times and the second worst statistics on record for the number of people waiting over four hours (8,631 record), Scottish Liberal Democrat leader and health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP commented:

"Waiting times in our A&E departments are getting worse. Week after week we are seeing NHS patients and staff in need of new hope, but little significant action from this SNP/Green Government to provide it.

Notes to Editors:

  • 68.1% of attendances at A&E services were seen and resulted in a subsequent admission, transfer or discharge within 4 hours. For the weeks ending 12 June, the figure was 69.2% for both
  • 2,262 patients waited over 8 hours and 793 waited over 12 hours, an increase from 2,235 the previous week.
