McArthur: Revenues growing but challenges remain for NE energy industry

Responding to reports that the UK treasury could earn around £1bn this year in tax receipts from oil and gas, Scottish Liberal Democrat energy spokesperson Liam McArthur MSP said:

"The energy industry plays a key role in providing highly skilled, high wage jobs to large parts of Scotland and it is good to see it return to profit after lean times.

"However the SNP should be reminded that their pitch for independence got North Sea oil and gas revenues wrong by a factor of 20.

"We need both of Scotland's governments working in tandem to ensure the revenue that the energy industry generates is used effectively to support the people of Scotland."
