McArthur responds to legal decision on ferry subsidies

Responding to the decision by the Court of Session to reject claims that the Scottish Government’s proposed contract for the Northern Isles ferry services is unlawful, Orkney’s MSP Liam McArthur said:.

“Hopefully today’s decision by the Court of Session will allow the uncertainty that has hung over the tendering process to be lifted.  These are lifeline services for the Orkney and Shetland communities, which will now expect improvements to be delivered during the course of the next contract period.

“As well as restoring sailings on the Pentland Firth route that were stripped out of the timetable when the contract was last awarded, the government must also ensure that freight capacity is increased to meet future needs.  A roll over of the status quo will not be good enough.”
