Responding to criticism of the SNP’s “shambolic” management of the British Transport Police (BTP) merger by the Chairman of the BTP Federation, Liberal Democrat justice spokesperson Liam McArthur MSP said:
“The Scottish Government’s substandard planning and lack of business case is reason enough to halt this merger for the foreseeable future.
“The SNP has been blinkered and unwavering in the implementation of this deeply flawed integration plan. Nigel Goodband’s latest intervention reveals just how demoralising this has been for the BTP workforce, just 7% of whom support the merger, who feel they can do nothing to stop their service being dismantled for purely political purposes.
"Scottish Liberal Democrats warned SNP ministers not to repeat the mistakes they made in pushing through the Police Scotland centralisation. It is time this merger was halted, rather than forced through at any cost.”
