Liberal Democrat Scottish Affairs Spokesperson Christine Jardine MP has called for an urgent meeting with Centrica over 4,000 threatened job losses across the company.
The parent company of Scottish Gas, announced the job losses today (Thurs Feb 22) following a 17 percent drop in operating profits.
Centrica, which currently employ around 33,000 staff across the UK, blamed political and regulatory intervention in the UK energy market for the drop in profits.
Ms Jardine, the MP for Edinburgh West said:
“This is a dreadful blow for Scottish Gas in Edinburgh and across the country.
“I want a meeting with the company to discuss how many jobs are under threat in the city and whether there is a way of avoiding or at least mitigating some of these job losses.
“My primary concern is to do what we can to protect staff and energy services across Scotland and in my constituency which neighbours the Scottish Gas HQ.
“We know the economy is about to enter a difficult phase because of Brexit and we must do everything we can to protect our companies and the people working for them.”
