Deficient mental health services need “serious scrutiny”

Responding to news that NHS Tayside will launch an independent inquiry into mental health services at the Carseview Centre in Dundee, Scottish Liberal Democrat Leader Willie Rennie said:

“The glaring deficiencies in NHS Tayside’s mental health services highlighted by the devastating case of David Ramsay have left plenty of questions to be answered. Things clearly went very wrong in this tragic case and we need to know precisely why he was failed and to what extent the problems were systematic.

“Mental health treatment has become a source of shame for the SNP and now more than ever the government’s record deserves serious scrutiny.

“The Liberal Democrats have laid out clear plans to end the scandal of long waits and long journeys for treatment. We recognise the need to break the cycle of years of underinvestment in mental health and deliver a step change in the way we treat it. Nothing less is acceptable."
