Cole-Hamilton: Physio target bending and breaking

Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesman Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP today said long waits for physio will be affecting people’s quality of life, after it was revealed the NHS waiting time target was missed for almost half of patients.

Just 54.6% of the 71,433 patients who had a first clinical appointment with musculoskeletal services during the quarter ending September 2017 were seen within 4 weeks.

Mr Cole-Hamilton commented:

"The Scottish Government has missed its target for musculoskeletal services yet again. This means that thousands of people are having to wait far longer than expected for treatment.

"For those suffering from complaints and diseases in their joints, bones and muscles, these delays have a serious impact on their quality of life and means people are living in pain for longer.

"Ministers need to explain why NHS staff don't have the resources and support they need to meet the target set by the Scottish Government and what action they will now take to prevent this target being bent and broken again.”
