Responding to the news that delayed discharges caused by health and social care problems are at their highest level since last October, with 1,182 people delayed at the July census, Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP commented:
“Hospitals are getting congested all the way up to critical care because there isn’t enough capacity to take care of people in the community.
"Every day there are more than 1,000 people stuck in hospital unnecessarily. Some are there for hundreds of days after medical staff have declared them well enough to leave.
“Staff are working tirelessly but there just aren't enough of them to go around. They need more support from the SNP Government, given it promised to eradicate delayed discharges years ago. That starts with publishing the integrated workforce plan that was due last year.”
