Capacity constraints cause 530 cancelled ops in June

Responding to the news that 532 operations were cancelled in June for capacity or non-clinical reasons, Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP commented:

“In the height of summer, when you’d be expecting hospitals to be on track, more than 530 families have endured the upset of a patient’s operation being cancelled through no fault of their own.

“It’s frustrating for staff when capacity constraints stop them doing their job and it’s even more frustrating for patients whose life plans are thrown up in the air.

“The Health Secretary must immediately address the staffing and resource pressures choking up the system.”
