Cable urges SNP to back final say on Brexit

Liberal Democrat Leader Vince Cable has written to Nicola Sturgeon to urge the SNP to fight in Parliament for the people to have the final say on Brexit.
The challenge from the Liberal Democrat leader comes as the SNP meet for their party conference in Glasgow. The SNP leadership, despite opposing Brexit, have so far avoided joining the campaign for a ‘People’s Vote’ on Brexit.

Writing to the SNP leader, Vince Cable said he is “happy to work with Ian Blackford, as well as Caroline Lucas and Liz Saville-Roberts, as part of an alliance of opposition party leaders in Westminster working to defend British membership of the Single Market and the Customs Union.”
He adds: “There are clearly still divisions at the top of Labour and Corbyn clearly needs to make a whole-hearted commitment - but there is now at least the chance that we can command a Parliamentary majority for a People’s Vote. We know there are Conservative MPs who have yet to publicly back this vote who will do so if they believe it can get it through Parliament.
“But we will need the SNP’s MPs to vote with us to secure this victory; the Parliamentary arithmetic is such that abstentions just won’t do. While I commend your position on extending Article 50, we are coming to the crunch time on Brexit - and we need the SNP to now back the People’s Vote.”
