Brexit is a “desperate outlook” for health service

Responding to the news that NHS Lanarkshire has warned there is a “very high” risk that Brexit will disrupt services, Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP said:

“The NHS is going to suffer if we leave the EU. That is indisputable. The claim of £350 million extra a week for the NHS was a lie.

“It’s an absolutely desperate outlook for our hard-working health professionals. They already face crippling underfunding and are at the mercy of shoddy government workforce planning, but now they potentially face further staff shortages and restricted medical supplies.

“If Theresa May’s final Brexit offering is going to end up making people poorer and disrupting the NHS, it is ridiculous to say the people shouldn’t get a vote on whether that is good enough for our future.”
