Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP has today warned that another poor week of A&E performance figures suggests the Scottish Government are resigned to missing the target until next spring.
Official figures released today show performance against the 4-hour waiting time target sits at 89.7%. The Scottish Government’s target is 95%. This has not been achieved since July 2017.
The weekly figures also show 258 patients waited over 8 hours and 51 patients waited over 12 hours.
Alex Cole-Hamilton said:
“Hundreds of patients are already waiting too long in A&E. The public will be rightly concerned about how our health service will cope in the cold winter months but another week of poor performance figures suggests that the Scottish Government are resigned to missing this target until at least next spring.
"Our hardworking NHS staff are overworked and underresourced, while a lack of social care places is preventing patients from moving on from A&E.
"People demand better from the Scottish Government. The doctors and nurses slogging away in A&E rooms across the country should be safe in the knowledge they have the support and staffing they need."
