"Stagnant" jobs figures show local economies are stuck

Responding to official figures released today showing unemployment up 5,000 and the number of people in work down 8,000, Scottish Liberal Democrat economy spokesperson Councillor Carolyn Caddick said:

"These figures show a trembling economic picture. Thousands of jobs have been lost and Brexit threatens tens of thousands more.

"The overall measures for Scotland are now worse than for the UK as a whole. Scottish ministers have promised to drive forward our local economies but these figures show performance is stuck and stagnant.

"It's essential that the Scottish Government deliver investment in people through education and mental health to boost productivity and unlocks Scotland's true potential."
