Responding to the news that 543 operations were cancelled due to capacity or non-clinical reasons during September, Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP commented:
"There were 27% more operations cancelled this September, compared to a year earlier, because hospitals didn't have the staff or capacity to stick to the plan.
"It's frustrating for the staff who want the best for their patients, and for the people whose lives are disrupted and are left in pain.
"The SNP Government have relied on the goodwill of staff for far too long. There is no part of the NHS which isn't under pressure. It is time the Health Secretary gave them the resources and support they need. That must start with publishing the integrated workforce plan that staff were promised they would receive this time last year."
