Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie said:
“I’d like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas.
“2018 has been a turbulent year in politics, but the Scottish Liberal Democrats have made some real progress where it matters.
“We’ve highlighted mental health service strains, held the government to account on long NHS waits for patients, stood up for teachers pay, rallied against misjudged national testing, challenged the government on the police and justice and called out failings in Scotland’s rail service.
“While the Conservatives have torn themselves apart over Europe and the SNP have been cynically calculating when to hold another independence referendum, we have stood firm for our partnership with the UK and Europe. And we’ve edged closer and closer to the prospect of a People’s Vote.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank those working in our public services. Frontline doctors and nurses who staff hospitals with cheer on Christmas Day. The police and fire service workers who never take a day off. The posties who have put in lengthy December shifts to get cards and presents to the right homes, and to everyone else who is keeping Scottish society afloat this Christmas time.
