We’re really excited that you’re considering becoming a member of the Liberal Democrats and we thought you might have a couple of questions about what it actually means to you.
So here are a few answers to the ones we get asked the most:
Why should I join?
Despite disappointing the results last year and in the EU referendum, we’re already fighting back and we’ll never stop working to build a Britain that is tolerant, open minded, outward looking and optimistic and where everyone can get up and get on, no matter what their background.
Our membership has grown by more than a third in the last year and our fantastic members, new and old are the lifeblood our party. They’re driving our party’s fight back and ensure that Britain always has strong, liberal voices, standing up for liberal values.
Got the answer you were looking for?
Where can my membership take me?
As a member, you’ll be a vital part of our team. You’re eligible to vote in leadership elections, you can vote on party policy – and even propose some of your own, you can attend local meetings, campaign in your community and you can even stand as a candidate.
So whether you share our values, want to help us win, reach our goals, or because you want to serve your community and country, your first step is joining the Liberal Democrats today.
Does that tell you everything you wanted to know?
How much will it cost and where does my money go?
Our standard rate starts at £1 a month (£12 a year) and you can choose to pay more if you wish – most members pay around £5 a month.
Students can join us for £1 for their first year of membership.
Concessionary subscriptions of £6 are available to those under 26 and anyone who is entitled to receive state benefits (other than the state pension or child benefit).
Unlike the Tories, we don’t rely on a small number of super-wealthy donors. Unlike the Labour party, we don’t rely on the trade unions.
Everything we do relies on funds from our dedicated members and your membership fee goes a long way to making sure we’re ready and able to fight and win elections and keeps our party running too.
What happens when I join?
We’ll send you a membership pack in the post shortly after you sign up, and you’ll officially be able to call yourself a card-carrying member of the Liberal Democrats!
We’ll also help you get further involved with the party by sending you information about local campaigning, training sessions, our conference, groups in your area and opportunities to share your ideas about our party’s policies.
If you’ve got more questions, you can send us a message here, or give us a call on 020 7022 0988.
The Liberal Democrats depend on the support of our members and we’d love to welcome you to the team today.
