Treatment Time Guarantee will not be hit until 2021

Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP today said new waiting times proposals which will see the Scottish Government miss its own existing legally binding treatment time guarantee until 2021 "show the depth of the mess the SNP have created".

Mr Cole-Hamilton said:

"The First Minister's 12-week legally binding Treatment Time Guarantee is supposed to apply to every single eligible patient, but the latest official statistics show this isn't being met for one in every four - the worst ever performance.

"Today the SNP have admitted that this guarantee, put into law in 2011, will not now be hit until 2021. For a decade Ministers will have hidden behind a document which is not worth the paper it is written on. This shows the depth of the mess the SNP have created.

"Patients are still sent letters advertising a 12 week wait, only to suffer in the queue for months beyond that. I think that's terribly cruel. It’s time the Government were straight with people about how long they are going to have to wait.

"Scottish Liberal Democrats demand better. The Health Secretary needs to ensure that this government are straining every sinew to support our hardworking health service staff and their patients."
