Following this morning’s meeting of the Rural Economy & Connectivity Committee, Scottish Liberal Democrat transport spokesperson Mike Rumbles MSP criticised the Transport Minister for evading reasonable questions on the age of refurbished ScotRail stock.
Mr Rumbles has already attempted to gain this basic information by means of written questions. He has appealed to the Minister to confirm the lifespan of the new trains.
Mike Rumbles said:
“It’s entirely reasonable for the public to be concerned about the age of these trains, especially as we’ve seen three cases in the last year and a half where trains of this model went on fire.
“This is pretty basic information and nobody would expect the Scottish Government to go ahead with such a significant purchase without considering the expected lifetime of the new trains.
“I invite the Transport Minister to settle commuters’ minds and confirm just how long he expects these trains to last.”
