Candidate for the North East regional list
Sheila was born and brought up in Aberdeen before heading to the south of England where her children were born and she set up an IT consultancy business.
After returning to Aberdeen, Sheila became a business advisor and trainer, supporting new and small businesses including social enterprises. This led her to become chief exec of Freepark Community Exterprise Ltd, developing social enterprises in deprived areas in the north of Aberdeen.
In 1999 Sheila returned to full-time education gaining an HNC in Social Science followed by a combined M.A. Hons in Politics and Women’s Studies. In May 2003, two months before her graduation she was elected as Liberal Democrat Councillor for Portlethen North, Aberdeenshire, where she served as vice-chair of the Social Work and Housing Committee.
Sheila has served on her local Liberal Democrat executive continuously since 2000, has been a member of the Scottish Executive since 2010 and chair of the conference committee since 2012. She stood as the Scottish Liberal Democrat candidate for Aberdeen Central in the 2011.
From 2007 until after the 2015 election Sheila managed the office of Sir Robert Smith, MP for West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine. In July 2015 she joined Community Renewal as a community engagement officer working with 6 GP surgeries across Grampian looking to modernising primary care.
Over the years Sheila has devoted her time and skills to support a variety of voluntary organisations at local, Scottish and UK levels including past chair of K&D Voice (the CVS for South Aberdeenshire), vice-chair of Community Transport Association UK, chair of Community Transport Scotland, director of Aberdeen Foyer, director of Aberdeenshire Housing Partnership and a founder member of ACVO (Aberdeen Council Voluntary Organisation, the TSI for Aberdeen).
