Shetland MSP Tavish Scott has today welcomed a letter from the Standards, Procedures and Public Appointments Committee to the Minister for Parliamentary Business asking him to set out plans for an independent inquiry into Scottish Government compliance with the Freedom of Information act.
Mr Scott said:
"A cross-party committee chaired by an SNP MSP has now challenged the SNP government to deliver the inquiry into freedom of information practices that the parliament voted for in June.
"The Scottish Government has been repeatedly pressed by journalists, opposition parties and open access campaigners to up their game on information transparency.
"Now the Government must ensure that a truly independent and far-reaching inquiry takes place."
