Tavish Scott MSP today welcomed the extension of a Liberal Democrat 5p per litre fuel duty cut to 13 new areas in rural Scotland.
The tax cut, which was introduced and championed by Liberal Democrat Ministers in the last Parliament, will see drivers in parts of the Highlands and Argyll and Bute benefit from the cut, which was already in place in Scotland’s island communities.
Commenting, Mr Scott said:
"This is a welcome move that will help thousands more motorists across Scotland and it would not have happened without the Liberal Democrats. We championed this policy at the Treasury and the EU and I am pleased that it has now been extended to help drivers in many more rural areas.
"We know that people living outside the central belt have struggled with the premium they are asked to pay at the pumps. This Liberal Democrat fuel duty cut will make a huge difference to families struggling to make ends meet."
