Scott: Teachers raw deal on display at SNP conference

After the President of Scotland's largest teaching union the EIS told the SNP conference that teachers are "on their knees" with low pay and high workloads taking a toll on their mental, physical and emotional health, Scottish Liberal Democrat education spokesperson Tavish Scott MSP said:

“Across the past decade Scotland's teachers have had a raw deal. It's no surprise that at the SNP conference they are telling the Education Secretary of the serious problems they and their colleagues are contending with and their fears for the future of the profession.

"Scottish Liberal Democrats want teaching to be a fulfilling and rewarding career. Yet staff surveys tell us that teachers feel overworked and underappreciated.

"That is why we need McCrone Two - an independent root and branch review into teachers' pay and conditions, that ensures Scotland has the talented and valued teaching staff that we need."
