Scott: SNP "tinkering" when fundamental education reform needed

Commenting on the analysis of responses to the Education (Scotland) Bill consultation, Scottish Liberal Democrat education spokesperson Tavish Scott MSP said:

"Teachers do not need yet more structural tinkering from the Scottish Government.

"The reason they have a 10% pay claim lodged with John Swinney is obvious. The government is not seen as valuing teachers and the workload and bureaucracy that they face shows no sign of letting up. There are vacancies everywhere and across key subjects.

"And what is the government’s response? More meddling from the centre. What is needed is McCrone 2 - a fundamental review of terms and conditions to attract people into the profession, not structural tinkering."
