Scottish Liberal Democrat MSP Tavish Scott today warned the pulling up the drawbridge could hammer Scotland’s economy as the Scottish Chambers of Commerce (SCC) indicated they will oppose any plans from the UK Government to restrict access to international talent.
Mr Scott was speaking as the SCC published their latest Quarterly Economic Indicator paper.
Commenting, Mr Scott said:
“The SCC have sent a clear signal to the Conservative government that pulling up the drawbridge and stopping talented people coming here to work and pay taxes will hammer the economy.
“The challenges that Brexit will bring for businesses are enormous but the Tories are in cloud cuckoo land. They are more interested in discussing a new royal yacht than addressing the serious concerns that Scottish businesses have raised. A floating gin palace will not help plug the skills gap that businesses across Scotland are facing.
“Scottish Conservatives sit around the Cabinet table with Boris and the rest and they are as responsible for this state of affairs as anyone else.”
