Scott: Music lesson charges show councils are underfunded

Responding to evidence given by David Dodds, Executive Councillor for Education on West Lothian Council, in this morning’s meeting of the Education Committee suggesting that music tuition charges in West Lothian have led to a 65% drop in pupil participation, Scottish Liberal Democrat education spokesperson Tavish Scott MSP said:

“The SNP Government must recognise that local councils are underfunded. That is why charges on music tuition are a fact of life across most of Scotland.

“So if music, with all the benefits that this brings to young people, is increasingly out of reach then Government must act to bridge the increasing financial home in local budgets.
