Speaking after the Scottish Government lost a vote on childcare provision, with Parliament expressing concern at progress towards the 2020 expansion, Scottish Liberal Democrat education spokesperson Tavish Scott MSP said:
“This vote should set alarm bells ringing. Parliament doesn’t have confidence the SNP Government is on course to get the job done. It's time it stepped up its efforts because this childcare expansion is critical to giving children the best start in life.
“Thousands of new staff need to be in place by next year and nurseries are saying that right now that’s not going to happen. The Minister can’t get by with vague assurances that the policy is on track. We need to see concrete evidence.”
