Responding to today's announcement of the latest Scottish Attainment Challenge projects, Scottish Liberal Democrat education spokesperson Tavish Scott said:
“Scottish Liberal Democrats pressed the Scottish Government for six years to introduce pupil equity funding but SNP parliamentarians kept on rejecting these proposals. If they had listened at the time we could be much further on in narrowing the attainment gap and tackling poverty and deprivation.
"Sadly under the SNP we are seeing teaching staff shortages, rising class sizes and Scotland plummeting in the international education rankings. For what the First Minister claimed was her "defining mission" her government are too frequently missing in action.
"Scottish Liberal Democrats would ensure that teachers and pupils genuinely have the resources they need to deliver a first rate education, not rely on plugging holes after they have arisen."
