Responding to the publication of new legislation aimed at clarifying aspects of the named person system, Scottish Liberal Democrat education spokesperson Tavish Scott MSP said:
“The Scottish Government should have made the most of the delay that the courts enforced to hold a full independent review of the named person policy.
“Its refusal to do so means that there is a very real risk that the limited changes now being proposed won’t be enough to regain the confidence of families across Scotland.”
Sheila Thomson, the Scottish Liberal Democrat children and young people spokesperson added:
“It has been almost a year since the Scottish Government was sent back to the drawing board on this policy and it remains to be seen whether this policy can ever begin to deliver the benefits that were promised.”
