North East MSP Mike Rumbles said:
“Liberal Democrats warned as long ago as last July that Carillion were facing financial difficulties.
“This collapse has put jobs across the country at risk. We need to see decisive action from the government to minimise damage to the construction industry and keep the supply chain going, whether than be taking responsibility for the projects or through re-tendering.
“What’s more we need to ensure that shareholders and the creditors– the big banks – have got to take a hit, they can’t just offload all of the losses on to the taxpayer.”
