Scottish Liberal Democrats have today warned that the Scottish Government must not squander a once in a generation opportunity to place Scotland at the forefront of tackling climate change.
The call comes as Stop Climate Chaos Scotland revealed that more than 8,000 people have written to the Scottish Government urging it to rethink its climate plans. The public consultation closes in one month's time.
Scottish Liberal Democrat environment spokesperson Mariam Mahmood said:
“From ministers failing to strike any agreement with local authorities to a lack of support for electric and ultra-low emission vehicles, the Scottish Government's climate change plans are hopelessly unambitious.
“This plan is an opportunity to put Scotland at the forefront of the battle against climate change but instead the Government have barely scratched the surface.
"Scottish Liberal Democrats want our country to be a world leader in sustainable transport, to push forward on renewable heating projects, create thousands more energy efficient warm homes and ban fracking for good rather than open up a new front of carbon-based fuels.”
