Scottish Liberal Democrats will today give MSPs the chance to express their support for a public vote on the final terms of the Brexit deal.
In this afternoon's parliamentary debate on Safeguarding Scotland’s International Research Collaborations and Reputation for Scientific Excellence from the Threat of Brexit, Scottish Liberal Democrat Europe spokesperson Tavish Scott MSP will move an amendment that would see MSPs provide "unequivocal support for a public vote on the final terms of the Brexit deal."
Speaking ahead of the debate, Mr Scott said:
"Universities and research institutions are quite clear that Brexit is bad news.
"With a new Survation poll showing a huge swing to remain, the People's Vote campaign is going from strength to strength. Politicians from across the political spectrum are getting on board.
"The First Minister and the Green Party have given their unequivocal support. The formerly pro-European Scottish Conservatives are a lost cause. It’s up to Scottish Labour to decide whether they will stand up for the people of Scotland or back Theresa May in taking Britain out of the EU against the will of their own party membership and voters.
"Now that the chaos of Brexit is obvious, lets keep the whole of the UK in the European Union."
