Rumbles: Train fairs soar as passengers struggle

Responding to new inflation figures which mean that rail passengers in Scotland will see some fares rise by 3.6% next year, Scottish Liberal Democrat transport spokesperson Mike Rumbles MSP said:

"This steep hike to rail fares will be a bitter blow for passengers struggling with overcrowded and unreliable trains.

"The fact that fare rises are soaring above wage increases is another sign that people are losing out from higher inflation since the referendum.

“We need to see evidence that this money will be invested in improving infrastructure such as the badly neglected routes to the North East rather than lining the pockets of train companies."
