Scottish Liberal Democrat transport spokesperson Mike Rumbles MSP has today demanded answers from the Scottish Government as to whether the unopened bridge over the River Don that forms part of the new Aberdeen Bypass is already facing radical repair work.
Sources close to the project have told Mr Rumbles that there are “substantial problems” with the new bridge. He has submitted questions to the Scottish Government to ask to what extent the bridge is presently in need of repair.
Mr Rumbles said:
“From what I have heard from sources close to the project, there is something substantially wrong with the bridge.
"Now we are told that 'minor defects' on the bridge crossing the River Don have been found. How long has the transport minister known about these defects? Why has this not been brought to light sooner?
“I hope we can be assured that the bridge will not need radical repair.
"We deserve real answers and accountability about this project.
"I hope we are able to see this project open to the public by the end of Autumn since we have already had so many changes to the opening date."
