Rumbles calls for evidence on workplace parking levy

Scottish Liberal Democrat transport spokesperson Mike Rumbles MSP has today called on Parliament to make time available for the Rural Economy and Connectivity committee to take evidence from stakeholders on the workplace parking levy, before making a formal decision on the amendment, as he criticised plans “scribbled on the back of a car park ticket”.

Mr Rumbles said:

“The SNP-Green parking poll tax is a major addition to the Transport Bill. It would be only appropriate for the committee to take evidence on the likely impact and efficacy of this amendment, which will hit rural communities hard.

“We need to make time available for the Rural Economy and Connectivity committee to take evidence from stakeholders on the workplace parking levy, before making a formal decision on the amendment.

“The Transport Bill was supposed to profoundly reshape Scotland’s transport system. Instead it will be remembered for an SNP-Green attempt to plunder driver’s pockets.

“The Government should not be asking Parliament to back plans that have been scribbled on the back of a car park ticket.”
