Responding to the news that Chief Constable Iain Livingstone is to promote Police Scotland as a ‘model for the rest of Britain’ in Wales this week, Scottish Liberal Democrat Leader Willie Rennie said:
“It is remarkable that any Chief Constable could claim that the centralisation of the police in Scotland is a shining example for the rest of the United Kingdom.
“The cack-handed creation of Police Scotland is one of the biggest mistakes of this SNP Government.
“The Chief Constable can’t have forgotten the industrial scale stop and search, the Strathclyde takeover of local good practice in other parts of Scotland, the long denied targets, the merger of the control rooms, the M9 crash and more.
“My advice to the rest of the UK would be to learn from Scotland’s experience but do not follow us.”
