Commenting on the publication of new statistics on regional employment patterns in Scotland for 2015, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie MSP said:
“The progress that we have made on helping more women into work is welcome but ministers should not be patting themselves on the back at a time when more people in Scotland are unemployed than in other parts of the UK. With regions like the North East still facing huge difficulties this is no time for complacency.
“The reaction of the Scottish Government to these figures from 2015 suggest that they have their heads in the sand over the challenges still facing Scotland’s economy. Things have moved on since the end of last year.
“We need a long-term plan to help businesses and people seeking work and that starts with investment in education to ensure that firms can hire the skilled staff they need.”
