Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie has today warned that there is no outcome from Brexit negotiations as good as simply remaining in the European Union as he repeated calls for the public to be given the final say over the Brexit settlement with the option to remain.
The Scottish Government has today published its assessment of the UK Government's Proposed Future Relationship with the EU, which warns that GDP would be around £9 billion lower than if we stayed in the EU, equivalent to £1,600 per person in Scotland.
Mr Rennie said:
“The Prime Minister’s withdrawal agreement is vague at best and damaging at worst. No wonder there is still no majority in Parliament for it.
“Nobody voted to make themselves poorer and damage the UK's standing in the world. It’s clear now that no compromise is as good as simply remaining in the EU. That’s why the SNP should join us in campaigning wholeheartedly for a People’s Vote with the option to remain in the EU.
“In the midst of all of this, there is a lesson for the SNP too. Breaking up is hard to do. Taking Scotland out of the UK single market would only compound the damage of Brexit.”
