Responding to the news that Scotland’s exports to the rest of the UK grew by £2.2 billion in 2017, with exports to the EU increasing by £1.7 billion and wider international exports up £145 million, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie commented:
“These figures demonstrate the colossal value of Scotland’s membership of both the UK and EU single markets.
“The Conservatives and SNP are both trying to put new barriers in the way of our working and trading with our neighbours.
“The lessons of Brexit are the lessons for independence. Breaking up is hard to do. We don’t need more chaos and uncertainty.”
