Speaking in response to Ruth Davidson’s comments on education to the Conservative Party conference today, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie MSP has warned that Conservative plans to cut taxes would lead to cuts in education budgets.
Mr Rennie said:
“Ruth Davidson talks about her grand plans for education yet Conservative plans to cut taxes for the most well off will lead to less money being available for public services.
“Scottish Liberal Democrats used the recent budget to put forward a package of measures to expand early years education, lift attainment among children from disadvantaged backgrounds through a properly funded pupil premium and restore our college system.
“These are the type of sensible and practical solutions which will boost opportunity and increase the number of high-skill and high-wage jobs in Scotland, not the cuts to public services proposed by the Conservative Party.”
