Rennie: Conservative remainers need to ask: "Is Brexit really what’s best for Britain?"

Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie has today said that Conservative party remainers should look at the state of the country and ask themselves "Is Brexit really what's best for Britain?" as he marked six months until the UK is scheduled to leave the European Union.

Speaking ahead of the Conservative party conference, Mr Rennie said:

"With six months to go we have no more idea of what Brexit will look like than we had two years ago.

"The Conservatives' internal divisions and shambolic negotiating tactics have resulted in a proposal that even the Prime Minister's own party cannot stomach. It’s clearer now than ever that Brexit will be bad for our economy, our security and our environment.

"Before the 2016 referendum, Ruth Davidson and many other Conservative figures spoke out passionately for remaining in the European Union. I urge Ruth and others to look at the state of the country and ask themselves "Is Brexit really what's best for Britain?"

"If they have any doubts they should do the democratic thing and back our calls to give the people the final say over Brexit."
