Speaking in response to a letter to local MSPs from NHS Tayside setting out the terms of the inquiry, Mr Rennie said:
“The devastating cases of David Ramsay and Sophie Parkinson have highlighted serious challenges at NHS Tayside. This inquiry offers a chance to get to the bottom of these issues and uncover whether there were systematic failings.
“Mental health treatment has become a source of shame for the SNP and now more than ever the government’s record deserves serious scrutiny.
"The true test of this inquiry will be whether it delivers closure for the families of those affected by the troubled Tayside services."
