Rennie calls for clarity on SNP Heathrow policy

Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie MSP today called on Economy Secretary Keith Brown to explain his government’s reasoning for supporting a third runway at Heathrow.

Mr Rennie was speaking after a baffling media interview in which Mr Brown backed simultaneously increasing and decreasing short haul flights to Scotland.

Commenting, Mr Rennie said:

“If anyone knows what the SNP’s Heathrow policy means for flights to and from Scotland can they please tell Keith Brown.

“Suggesting in the course of one interview that airport expansion in London could both increase and decrease short haul flights to Scotland is quite special.

"Keith Brown is now seriously arguing that we should expand Heathrow so that people can fly directly to Scotland instead. Keith Brown is for and against action on climate change, for and against short haul flights and I suspect if we asked he would be for and against flying too. This policy must be a joke - it can't be real."
