Scottish Liberal Democrat leader and North-East Fife MSP Willie Rennie has today welcomed the news that a buyer has been found for the local company, BiFab, which could save hundreds of jobs, but warned that staff still needed assurances about the future.
Mr Rennie said:
“I am delighted that the deal with JV Driver is now agreed. I welcome the news and my first question to the new owners is what this means for the 260 staff who were told to expect redundancy by the end of this May.
“For the workers and their families, it has been a painful number of years living with a cloud of uncertainty over their futures, peppered with false hopes. Along with other local MSPs I have been continuing the conversation with the Scottish Government and BiFab about the yards at Methil and Burntisland, as well the Arnish yard on Lewis. I’d like to thank everyone who has contributed and worked hard to secure a future for the Fife firm.
“The yard at BiFab is exactly the kind of Scottish industry we want to grow, attracting more contracts here in Fife and across Scotland, to make a bigger success of our Renewable Energy sector, creating jobs for this generation and the next.”
