Responding to the latest report in the Sunday Times ahead of Keith Brown's meeting with Amazon executives tomorrow, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie MSP said:
“These reports reflect what many people have told me about the working arrangements within Amazon. It is important that everyone is treated with dignity and respect. We have these working time regulations for a reason so we can protect workers from being compelled to work excessive hours. It would be wrong for workers to feel pressure to agree to these excessive hours by some kind of back door procedure. We need clarity from Amazon on how they are applying these rules in practice.
“The Cabinet Secretary for the Economy is meeting with bosses at Amazon to discuss the reports that were exposed last week. This is the second meeting from a Scottish Government minister within the last few months and needs to achieve something that the last one didn't - change. This meeting needs to deliver on the the sickness rules, working time regulations and the support and arrangements for workers like the pickers who are walking considerable distances every day on the job. It is important that Amazon delivers change for its workers."
