RBS profits will not sit well with communities losing services

Commenting on RBS posting a 14% increase in profits to £448 million in the three months to September 30, Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross MP and Scottish Liberal Democrat Scottish Affairs spokesperson Jamie Stone said:

"Taxpayer owned RBS is going from strength which is why it should be giving something back to the communities who stood by them when times were tough. These profits will not sit well with customers who have recently seen their access to banking services slashed.

"RBS should end the closures of rural bank branches which pose a huge threat to local businesses and leave loyal customers without access to essential financial services.

"Scottish Liberal Democrats have proposed a number of solutions to the challenges facing RBS including community banking hubs where banks could pool resources together thereby ensuring services can remain open."
